  • In July 1943, Leaside's first public library opened in a leased store at 645 Bayview Avenue.

  • By 1949, library membership stood at 7,084, which was about 50% of the population of Leaside, 10,623 books and a circulation of 64,631.

  • On March 8, 1950, the Leaside Public Library at its present location in Trace Manes Park, was opened. In 7 years, membership had increased from 9,000 to 16,568.

  • November 1958 saw the Leaside Public Library enhanced with the addition of a children's wing and a main entrance.

  • Eventually, the issue of accessibility and need for more up-to-date facilities resulted in the construction of the present Leaside Public Library which opened in the Spring of 2002.

  • The new facilities include an accessible meeting room, several computer stations, an archival room, a children's area and a comfortable and inviting reading lounge.
